I knew early on that being an artist was destined for me. From the age of 6, I have a strong curiosity with the inner workings of items and how they were designed. Each time I would obtain a new toy, I’d immediately have a screwdriver to it to see how it worked internally. I would want to make my own video games using the software program Q Basics on the gigantic IBM PC the family had. Unsatisfied with using my static Lego’s, I would then attach motors to them to create computer controlled vehicles and Ferris wheels.
I entered college with this same urge to figure out engines. Mechanical Engineering was going to be my future with the hopes of designing smaller and more efficient engines but then I realized I had to do an absurd amount of mind boggling calculus. I felt that if I was an engineer that I’d have the career and financial stability that most seek, doing the same task everyday, all day.
One day I came home, arms weighed down by math books to find my roommate on the floor drawing. I asked her “what are you doing?” She replied with “homework.” I was completely dumbfounded on her answer. How could drawing be homework, as I looked down at both of my arms straining to keep the pile of books afloat, I realized that I too needed this creativity that had always been in me to surface.
That moment was when my life changing epiphany occurred. Graphic design was the career path that would allow me combine my technical curiosity along with my creative hands-on approach to convey messages. Now that I have obtained my Bachelors in Graphic Design and Communications from Sacramento State University, I have risen to the role of Creative Director for Racers Drive, integrating visual advertising along with technologies such as QR codes to help race fans navigate events.
Combining design, powerful messaging and technology, I have learned that these three elements can have such a strong impact on the end users ability to identify with a brand. I feel that with my working experience I can bring your establishment cutting edge design and exciting campaigns to all of your target audiences.
